Adelaide Fringe Festaval 2011

The brief behind the illustrations were to capture the phrase "tour of the unexpected"

The need to capture the essence of the Fringe festival was paramount. With many of the artists  traveling from far off places and performing acts that are certainly not main stream the ideas began to ferment. Initially I had ideas of  illustrating a  one man band but I felt this was rather cleche. I began an exploration of an alternative world filled with characters that were almost identifiable but with a slight twist and so the Idea of a whale who had left home with his Banjo seemed the logical choice. Joined on his journey by two other acts he heads out to entertain!

The second image aimed at the out opouring of the unusal entertaining and outright bizarr thoihgtsas the showman or ringmaster reveasl his mind. The concept was aimed  at  captureing the delight an audence experiences in having their minds exposed to a whole world of unusual and challenging ideas that the adelaide Fringe  puts on.

And the last image set out to capture the abiance of the Fringe at night in the park  as everything comes to life. Where anything is possible... where you see the world come alive on the head of a character as if his very thoughts have come alive and turend into performers....
